When Raila Odinga died in October 2025, we decided to make something. No commission, no deadline from anyone else. Just something we wanted to do.
We gave ourselves 48 hours, decision to publish. With that little time, you stop deliberating and pick a concept and go.
There are no characters in the piece, only objects. The film opens on a Kenya Airways plane descending through the sky, fighter jets pulling in on either side. His plane from India was officially given the callsign RAO 001. The air traffic control line in the audio: "RAO 001, Welcome home."
From there it follows his casket draped in the Kenyan flag, moving through a police escort. The final shot is the casket on the lowering cables. The last image is the flag at half mast.
The audio is the Kenyan national anthem, remixed to sit differently. Strings, wind, and percussion were layered to build something slower and heavier than the standard version. The audio took as much work as the 3D.
